Knottingley is one of the most deprived areas of our constituency - but our current MP has not delivered a project here despite the Levelling Up money being on the table. There's only one reason - the bid wasn't good enough.
And it doesn't deliver what people want - good jobs, better prosperity, facilities they can use locally.
But Wakefield Council have chosen to let volume housebuilders put up hundreds of units in Knottingley without paying a penny in builders' levies, or doing any of the improvements in kind that are the case in other areas.
In Knottingley, I'll make sure:
Any new homes must show an additional benefit to the community before I'll give my support.
We deliver a Levelling Up project that reflects the things that people in Knottingley actually want.
We capitalise on the space available in Knottingley to attract private businesses with skilled, long-term jobs.
We focus on funding - improving Knottingley's appearance one grant at a time if necessary, and support the groups that are working hard on the ground to lift up the community.
