I've discussed my plans with Levelling Up minister Jacob Young MP on his visit to Pontefract. I'm making sure that we get the recognition we deserve.
With a fascinating history, stunning heritage sites and a beautiful town centre, Pontefract should be attracting visitors from all over the country!
But sadly our historic sites are falling into ruin, our town centre isn't being protected and we're not attracting the prosperity that visitors bring to similar places, like Beverley or Richmond.
Pontefract needs full-throated support from an MP who's not afraid to demand the funding we need to keep our historic town safe for future generations.
In Pontefract, you'll always be able to rely on my support for:
Investing in visitor attractions that bring new money into our town
Restoring, preserving and safeguarding our heritage buildings - including pub and shop fronts in the town centre
Building projects that are sympathetic to our town's historic character
Independent shops - offering visitors something different from identikit high streets elsewhere
Responsible cafes, bars and restaurants operating in the town centre - creating a buzzing night time economy
Support for responsible action in the Horse Racing industry - keeping our racecourse bringing visitors to Pontefract, whilst ensuring animal welfare
Support for confectionary manufacturers - I'll never support a sugar tax that jeopardises our historic liquorice industry
