Laura Weldon is a Conservative campaigner, activist and GE2024 Candidate 

With a background in economics, Laura has experienced a varied career which has included a decade in industrial procurement and supply chain, working alongside the Armed Forces in training and operational headquarters, and several years managing welfare projects for regional and national charities and social welfare organisations. 

Her experience working life was put to good use in the constituency offices of Yorkshire Conservative MPs, and she was selected to stand as the Conservative candidate in Pontefract, Castleford and Knottingley against Yvette Cooper in the 2024 General Election.

She currently works as Head of External Affairs for a major UK energy infrastructure company, and sits as an elected member of their Pensions Governance Committee, overseeing the management of a DC fund worth over £500 million.

Originally from Stockport, Greater Manchester, Laura has always lived in the North of England and is a passionate advocate for all parts of the North. Her family has Polish and Irish heritage, and her political inspiration is her grandfather, who was a member of the Polish Resistance during Nazi occupation. Her father - an NHS dentist - died suddenly when Laura was five years old and she and her siblings were raised alone by her mother, who was a Special Educational Needs teacher and later deputy head of the local pupil referral unit in Stockport. 

Laura holds a Dual Honours degree in Economics and Politics from the University of Sheffield, a postgraduate qualification in the Economics of the Energy Transition from Robert Gordon University, and a postgraduate diploma in Crisis Communications from the Chartered Insitutute of Public Relations. She is currently undertaking a postgraduate course in English and Welsh law at Cambridge University.

Laura is a passionate advocate for the principles of individual liberty, fairness, personal responsibility and aspiration, and believes stridently in a smaller state, the power of markets and the right o.f everyone to take risks and reap the rewards.
