One of the biggest issues holding us back is our lack of a sense of purpose in the Five Towns.
Since the end of heavy industry our area has struggled with our identity, and that has led to being reliant on industries that aren't developing local people's talent or capitalising on our natural advantages.
That's why I've got plans for Pontefract, Castleford, Knottingley and Altofts, that take into account the common-sense advantages we have in each area, consider how we can use those advantages to increase our wealth, health and happiness and set out how I can support what needs to be done.
I often say that an MP has a "superpower" - the ability to get phone calls answers, emails responded to, and decision-makers sat around the table for a face-to-face meeting. That's a superpower I want to use for the benefit of our area. I'll use my influence and convening powers to make sure that people are listening to us, and understand not only our needs, but also our abilities!
Wakefield's Labour-run council spends time and money (YOUR money!) conducting endless surveys and consultations before they'll even do so much as put up a hanging basket. I'm setting out what I'll do NOW, and by electing me you'll give me a mandate to cut through the nonsense and get on with the job.
